Come and learn how to spin fibres into yarn on various traditional spinning wheels, Ashord and Haldane along with an electric spinning wheel that helps you understand the hands bit before adding both hands and feet! There is a wide variety of different sheep breed fleeces which give you an understanding and feel for what the different sheep breeds are and their uses, there’s fleece straight from the sheep so you can try spinning in the dirt along with washed and carded ones, all local Derbyshire breeds. There’s also a variety of industrially carded rovings from plant fibres to merino, Blue Faced Leicester etc and lots of different colours.
This workshop will give you a basic understanding of how yarn/wool is created and the many many options available, colour, fibre, thickness etc and you will leave with your own plied yarn and hopefully the need to keep on spinning and creating!!!
This workshop is held at the weaveKNITit studio above the shop at Cromford Mills, at the UNESCO World Heritage site at Cromford. Please note that there are some stairs as its on the first floor but toilets are on the same floor.
Hot drinks provided.
